One of the top prospects in the upcoming NHL Draft is heading to the NCAA.
Centre Tynan Lawrence will be joining the Boston University Terriers for the remainder of the season, Sportsnet can confirm.
ESPN's Kevin Weekes was first to report the news.
Lawrence, 17, was in his second season with the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL. The Fredericton native had 10 goals and 17 points in 13 games this season, missing some time with a lower-body injury. As a rookie in 2024-25, he had 25 goals and 54 points in 56 games.
Sportsnet scout Jason Bukala had Lawrence ranked No. 7 in his pre-draft rankings published in early December. In that report, Bukala described the five-foot-1 1 Lawrence as someone with "top-six NHL upside."
"Lawrence is highly skilled and plays the game fast. He’s a threat in transition with the puck on his stick and sees the ice exceptionally well," Bukala wrote. "When he moves the play to a linemate, his ability to keep his feet moving and find open ice in high danger areas speaks to his hockey sense."
With the Terriers, Lawrence will be teaming up with top NHL prospects, including Cole Eiserman (Islanders) and Cole Hutson (Capitals), as well as Aiden Celebrini, a Canucks prospect who is the older brother of San Jose Sharks star Macklin.
BU is 9-8-1 this season and currently ranked 19th in the NCAA.
